The boxer is a muscular, short-haired dog with a square muzzle and smooth skin. A male has a height at the withers of 57 to 63 cm and weighs about 32 kg. A bitch is smaller, about 53 to 59 cm, and weighs about 28 kg.
Around 1890, a detailed plan for breeding the boxer was started in southern Germany (Munich). The goal was to breed a dog that could jump well, was very fast, had great endurance and had to be able to defend as well as attack like a Mastiff. In 1895 the first Boxer Club was founded in Munich and in 1904 they held their first exhibition.
